Kemmling and Sehested qualified
Carsten Kemmling, german sailing moderator, and Nicolai Sehested from Denmark and 24th in the world ranking, qualified last weekend against ten teams from 5 nations for the 20th International Berlin Match Race. The Berliner Yacht Club (BYC) had organized the qualifier on Wannsee lake as a Grade-3 Event.
Ice on board and a glassy lake! Saturday morning the sight of the Berliner Yacht Club port area and the Wannsee lake did not really invite for sailing. But nevertheless the qualifier for the participation of the professional Grade-1-Match Race in the Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee (VSaW) as from November 3 to 6, 2011, classified as a Grade-3 Event, had to start.
The conditions were: 12 invited teams from 5 nations, 2 groups of 6 each, sailed on Laser SB 3 boats. The first 2 qualified for the anniversary edition of the 20th International Berlin Match Race.
Wind and sun broke through, and the temperature rose just in time for the first duelling. In the end the teams of the helmsmen Carsten Kemmling and Nicolai Sehested reached the finals. Both qualified for the Berlin Match Race – but who won the qualifier. The professional sailor Sehested kept his nerves and won the finals clearly 2:0. Patryk Zbroja from Poland, came third with 2:1 against Stefan Meister, Berlin.
